observations and opinion
My original comment on the fateful first debate, which I wrote that week but didn’t get around to publishing – DKL
When a man wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his smile, while saving the world from economic apocalypse, the business of politics must begin to seem very small. All the more so when the opposition doesn’t believe in climate change, evolution, math or even recent historical events. A feeling of contempt must creep in and boy oh boy, did it seep out during The One’s “debate” with Mitt Romney on Wednesday.
And so we now know the inner Barack Obama: he’s Tracy Flick, the ruthlessly earnest candidate for high school class President, played by Reese Witherspoon in the wonderful film “Election” – boiling in resentment at the prospect of losing to the handsome quarterback.
