The Really Good Liars

image

You feel a fool, you
Wonder how you came to trust
Love strong as the mist

And it pains me to
See you blame yourself, lost and
Frozen in the fog

Not trusting your own
Ears and eyes, convinced you were
Unloved and unwise

When in truth, you were
Right all along to think you
Were the one I loved

Because I meant it
When I said it, believed that
It was true. But then

I had to forget
It, because that’s what the
Really good liars do.

Deceive yourself, you
See, and you can never lie
To someone else. But

Like the scorpion
On the turtle’s back, one’s
True nature will out
